LMA ‘Music-in-Motion’ string ensemble workshop-auditions

(violin, viola, cello, bass)

We are looking for violin, viola, cello and double-bass players for professional engagements involving a series of rehearsals and concerts in major London venues during Autumn 2017.

The series will be performed using an exciting new performance concept conceived by LMA Music Director John Landor, called Music-in-Motion.

'Music-in-Motion' clarifies the structure, narrative and drama of classical music to audiences by having the musicians use elements of stagecraft, characterisation and movement while playing.

This involves the musicians working creatively and collaboratively with colleagues, stage and music directors. As Music-in-Motion is usually performed without sheet music or music-stands, the music is read from monitors or screens, with short sections (or, where possible, whole works) played from memory. It's a whole new way of working, with most musicians and audiences finding it invigorating, engaging and fun.

The workshop-auditions will take place in June near Trafalgar Square and will be led by John Landor. Each will involve around 4 – 6 participants playing excerpts from standard string chamber repertoire, and is an opportunity to explore various elements of Music-in-Motion.

Applicants may also be considered for additional work at our regular series of LMA Ensemble concerts at St Martin-in-the-Fields.

To apply, you must be eligible to work in the UK, self-employed, and preferably based in London or the South-East.
