Orchestral Conducting Tuition and Mentoring
including Private Lessons, Workshop Masterclasses and Scholarship-assistantships
with John Landor, Music Director,
London Musical Arts Orchestra
I warmly invite you to contact me if you are interested in developing your conducting.
All are welcome: students, professionals, teachers, beginners, intermediate or advanced. Perhaps you are preparing for a conducting course or competition, working with youth and community groups, or setting up your own professional orchestra. Either way, I can offer more that 30 years of experience to help cultivate, encourage and develop your conducting in a positive and nurturing way.
Technique, score learning and analysis, accompaniment, memory.
Psychology, philosophy and practicalities of rehearsing and performing.
Physical and emotional characterisation and communication.
Period performance, programme planning, presenting to audiences.
The lessons usually last between one and two hours and are tailored to each pupil’s individual needs. An initial half-hour consultation is offered free-of-charge. Fees start at £50 for a single one-hour lesson, discounted for longer lessons and/or pre-booked courses.
These range from one to three days and involve work with piano up to full orchestra, sometimes including public performances. Fees range from £100 - £400. Non-participants are welcome (reduced rate applies).
There are occasional opportunities for selected advanced students to work with me and LMA Orchestra: as assistant conductor, assistant presenter, and/or to help with orchestral management and administration in return for free or reduced-rate tuition and mentoring.
Please send an email with your CV, letting me know what you are interested in. Links to any online conducting videos you may have are useful, though not necessary.
