John Landor conductor

John Landor
Conductor • Educator • Innovator

American-born British conductor John Landor was Music Director of London Musical Arts Orchestra for over 30 years.  He has conducted at major London venues including the Queen Elizabeth Hall and St. John’s Smith Square and worked with international soloists Hu Kun, Raphael Wallfisch, Alexander Baillie, Jill Gomez, Nicola Benedetti and many of Britain’s finest early musicians.

He is a frequent guest conductor abroad, performing and recording in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Russia, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Romania, Poland and South Africa.

John received his musical education at Westminster Cathedral Choir School, Oxford University, the Royal Academy of Music in London and the St Petersburg Conservatoire where he studied with the legendary Ilya Musin. His professional work has encompassed symphony and chamber orchestra repertoire, early music, contemporary music, opera/operetta and choral-orchestral works.

Always passionate about extending the reach of classical music, he launched his Mini Maestro family concerts in 2001, which ran for 20 years, also presenting a series of Meet the Music discovery concerts. In 2013 he began developing a new performance aesthetic, Music-in-Motion, where musicians move freely while playing, articulating the structure, drama and meaning of the music with their movements and gestures.

John is a committed conducting teacher, leading numerous workshops and giving masterclasses with the I Maestri, Salomon and London Musical Arts orchestras. He has recently expanded these activities with the Landor Conducting Academy.

He has recorded a series of CDs for Pickwick Records and Musical Concepts, and is also a composer and arranger. His achievements have been recognised by election as an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music, London.
